Description

Casa Apolonia is a unique property situated in a rural and peaceful location not far from the popular white village of Vejer de la Frontera. The villa is situated on higher ground, directly adjacent to a Natural Park, and offers unrivalled views of La Janda.

The plot is laid out over several levels and features an entrance at the lower level with access to a garage, and several parking spaces directly next to the house at the upper level. Taking the upper driveway, the entrance to Casa Apolonia is on the left-hand side, with a raised, natural front garden on the right.

Upon entering the house, you arrive in an entrance hall separated from the main house by an ornamental wrought-iron grille. From here, a corridor on the right leads to two very spacious bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The fully fitted bathrooms are also accessible from the corridor and feature a shower and bath, and in one case a shower. The bedroom on the right-hand side has access to a terrace on the side of the property. The other bedroom offers a lovely view over the garden. There is also a storage room on this side of the corridor.

At the entrance on the left-hand side, you reach the master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. From here, you look out onto the front garden of the property. All bedrooms have air conditioning (hot/cold).

A few steps lead down from the entrance hall into the open-plan and very spacious living/dining and kitchen area. The living room on the right features a fireplace and plenty of space for various seating arrangements. In the centre is the dining area, currently furnished with a large dining table. On the left-hand side is the recently refurbished kitchen. All the windows offer views across the terrace into the garden and La Janda.

From the kitchen, a few steps lead up to the utility room, which contains a washing machine, tumble dryer, additional fridge, boiler and storage space.

A sliding door leads from the living room onto the huge terrace with breathtaking views and outdoor furniture. Adjacent to the terrace is the built-in barbecue area.

From the terrace, you can access the lovingly landscaped garden and, further down, the pool area. Around the fenced-in pool, there is space for plenty of sun loungers to enjoy the Andalusian sun. Finally, in the lower area, is the access to the garage, which is currently used as a storage room. It is large enough to be used for other purposes.

About the area: Vejer de la Frontera

Vejer de la Frontera is one of the most beautiful and revered hill top "pueblos blancos" (white towns) in Andalucia. It attracts artists, musicians and those interested in history and culture. It has been recognised by Spain as "an historical artistic monument of national importance" and once you step into its cool, cobbled streets and marvel at your surroundings, you will understand why. Its history dates back to at least 400BC and it has changed hands over the centuries more times than a set of traffic lights on Piccadilly Circus! Vejer commands an enviable strategic position in terms of trade and defence and therefore, was a place of much unrest. It overlooks the sea at the mouth of the Gibraltar Straights, inland across the Barbate River and out across the beautiful Alcornocales Natural Park, full of character Cork Oaks and rich wildlife as one of Spain's most important nature reserves.
The Romans, Moors, Arabs and the French have all occupied Vejer over the years leaving subtle imprints of their culture knitted within the architecture and cuisine through the winding streets and ancient arches and up to the church, built on the site of the old mosque nestled at the top of town within the medieval quarter. Its panoramic views meant that many battles were observed at the foothills and out at sea including the Battle of Trafalgar when Lord Nelson defeated the French in the early 19th Century.
Nowadays you cannot hear cannon fire but you can certainly imagine what it would have been like as there is little evidence of the 20th century within its old walls or the "Plaza de Espana" other than some fantastic restaurants and bars in which to relax and enjoy tapas whilst sipping a cool glass of "fino" (sherry).
Who could resist the peaceful charm of Vejer? Aan ideal location for you to live or spend your holidays with its moderate year round climate and only 10 minutes by car to some of the coasts most seductive sandy beaches such as El Palmar.
